wild flowers on Braunton Burrows

Wild flowers abound on

about 5 miles from Woolacombe

unfortunately I haven't a clue what this is called (bet somebody out there can help)

as with this flower

I thought this was a thistle at a distance but close-up it is obviously
nowhere near a thistle!.....
(again if anyone can help) -

I think I need a book on wild flowers don't you.....

Can't help you with the name of the flowers, but they are gorgeous! Esp. the second one, never seen before.

Hi Judy,
Annie,
Robin and Carol :

glad you like these photos, I will try to get round to painting them one day, but somehow I don't think I will do them justice, certainly the second one looks tricky!

I think the top one is Purple Loosestrife, well a variety of them anyway, we have them over this side of the pond, but they aren't native. The second one I don't know, I have wildflower books but only for the US/Canada and this isn't one of ours. Beautiful both of them.

Hi Kathy, Great...just looked up the Purple Loosestrife and I do believe you are spot on. Thanks so much for that.

Hi Ann! I think that's a loosestrife too but am unsure of the second. There is a book I saw when I Googled called the Wild flowers of Braunton Burrows which might be a buy for your bookshelves. There's some lovely painting material here.

Thanks Judith - I'll google the book, it sounds a good one especially for these unusual plants (of which there are many over at Braunton Burrows), cheers...ann.

Really great photos Ann. I love the shallow depth of field.
