Mottisfont

A recent trip down to Mottisfont another National Trust property, near Romsey in Hampshire. A bit like a bus mans holiday for me, seeing as I work at the National Trust house near us, Arlington. However, this one was very different....the house a totally different style. It was nice meeting the staff and volunteers there, exchanging some info about Arlington and comparing some of the ideas they have at Mottisfont, perhaps taking back some of those ideas too.

Although, I am glad Arlington still uses its working stables, the Mottisfont wire horse would be a lot easier to look after!

With that I will leave you with some of the photos I took that day......hope you enjoy

What an amazing property. I always see these buildings and think of all the work and time that went into building them. I had to do a double take on the horse. Clever statue. :)

Oooo! I love this place. The house, and especially the little bridge. I could roam around there all day. :)

Wow! What a beautiful estate! As I'm sure is the case with many others, having watched Downton Abbey, I think of these places in a whole new way. Wonder what the upstairs/downstairs drama was like here?

Yes they do take a lot of upkeep. Thankfully the visitors all help pay towards that, without them there would be no historic places to visit.

So could we Mary, we intend going back in the warmer weather, it was SO cold that day!

I think there were many dramas there. One included the lady of the house and Ian Fleming!!

Maud Russell and her husband bought Mottisfont in the 1930's....apparently she had a string of affairs. If you put in to Google search Ian Fleming Mottisfont it comes up with some articles ..
Hopefully I've pasted one here...
