House guests and farmyards

Last week was hectic but in a good way.  For one thing we already had little Hamish staying with us

~ Hamish~

but then his mum and her horse came to stay.....lucky for us the horse stayed on a local farm!

so I thought for this post it would be nice to share some pictures
 with you from last week..

the farm is so quaint and old fashioned, owned by friends....this is the second part of the
stable block

well, you have to admit that is gorgeous

and this madam settled in really well

but didn't avoid wash time!

~ although by the look on the horses face, she isn't impressed ~

  the original farmhouse is
currently having repairs done (the right-hand part of the house isn't lived in)

and this is the first stable yard area...

well, you can't get equine girls together without they natter....a lot!

a blissful landscape, but I also took the opportunity to photograph some doors and windows
on the farm buildings!

and the last two there didn't escape my sketchbook, but I did
add the paint when I got home..

I only had time for these two, but have since sketched and painted others, which
I will show in another post...

meanwhile it was exercise time...

A brilliant week had by all
***

~ If anyone would like to use any of the photos in this post, then
please go ahead - Enjoy ~

Hi Ann! Thanks for your enthusiastic comments about my painting.... I think you're being extra kind!
I love these window and door shots, and what gorgeous old farm buildings. You can't beat North Devon for scenery and beautiful places to visit! Maybe I'm a little bit prejudiced. I haven't got myself together for the sketch challenge yet. I don't think I'm very good at sketching so I really need to practice more.

Ann, what a quaint and beautiful place! I would love to visit it but I know that will never happen. You did a great window painting, and I was just about to ask if I could try my hand at one of the earlier ones. Then I scrolled dow and see that you have granted permission. I'll see what I can do with one of the other windows.Thanks.

I was being honest about your painting, really, it is very good.

Do give the sketching a go, even an outline of something is a start. It is also a way of keeping a record of your progress too. Practise, practise is so true :-)

These photos are all so wonderful. I'm going to have to come back later on to take a longer, closer look! :) The farm is gorgeous. What a magnificent landscape, and a lovely horse. :D I love your drawings, and can't wait to see more!

You live in a lovely area. How fun to have all come to visit.. Even if they all weren't all at your house. :) That's a cool stable. Great sketches and sketching opportunities. What kind of horse is that? It seems shorter then ones we had around here. Which would be nicer to ride.. shorter to the ground if you fell. LOL

What is it about old architecture that cries out to be sketched? Yours are delightful! (And so is Lil!)

Thanks Mary :)

The horse (April) is a Connemara X Welsh 13.2hh* in fact because she is under 14.2hh she is classed as a Pony - I see what you mean about the falling off thing!, but strangely enough it's easier to fall off bigger horses, the ponies tend to be quick in movement and sudden falls from them can be nasty ><

(daughter) Lil has her own blog too :

do take a look :)

I know, it's all the nooks and crannies that make everything so tempting to draw isn't it. It was lovely having them home :)

Wow, what a beautiful place! I love to watch Escape to the County, looking at all the cottages and barn conversions, and of course the beautiful countryside! Beautiful photos, Ann, love the doors and windows!

ann @ studiohyde said...

It is beautiful Judy...I tried to get photos to show it as I see it, but still missed things out.

You mention Escape to the Country - they actually showed Arlington Court recently (where I volunteer in the stables).

Well, the barn made me think of James Herriott. The pony and rider reminded me of my daughter trail riding on her white pony. Just a fabulous post all the way around. You live a charmed life.

ann @ studiohyde said...

It is very James Herriott here Chris. I'm so pleased you enjoyed this post :)
