Sketches this week

A few sketches to share today...I've used various sketchbooks on different occasions instead of sticking with just one..........

a simple sketch of trees and water - this might turn into a painting one day
(I used a Derwent watercolour pencil - Blue Grey)

from memory the other day, this girl was walking in town...a figure that
might be added one day to a painting, it made for good practice with drawing figures anyway
(again the Derwent)

a spiral of post it notes....  quite difficult to do as the angles were askew
(just used pencil and ink Pilot Drawing Pen)

flowers - made up from imagination - I just added a little colour and left the rest sketched
(the pen was a Uniball eye)

sketched from a design on a tray

my new moleskine notebook - this came in useful in a waiting room this week
(as you see I used the Pilot Drawing Pen)

and then in a car park
(both these were coloured in when I got home)

I think my favourite sketchbook was the moleskine watercolour notebook
it's small but the paper is very nice to sketch on and it took the watercolour well...

that's it for this week

I'm Linking today to
(thanks to EVA & Kristin)

Yes, the book has thick enough paper to take watercolour both sides. I'm really pleased with it.

Great post, Ann. I love the water scene in watercolor pencil. And the girl with the swishy skirt certainly does look like the beginning of a painting. Go for it!

ann @ studiohyde said...

Thanks Faye, I certainly enjoyed drawing them all :)

Great that you sketched from memory! My favorite is the one done in the waiting room...good detail. I have a small wc moleskine and I like the paper and the book is small enough to tuck it almost anywhere.

Thanks Christine :)

Great sketches! As usual!!! My teacher says that the best thing you can do to get better at painting is sketch, sketch, sketch, and I'm definitely guilty of not doing enough. However I'm off to Newfoundland for a week at the end of June so will take my new sketch book with me. I am thoroughly enjoying the acrylics course, had the last session on Monday with a "show and tell" and a critique of the paintings. (He told me he was pleased with my progress... woohoo!) Only a couple more sessions left for the colour theory course, which I have found fascinating and very helpful.

Beautiful! I love your sketch of trees and water, it is so pretty and has such a wonderful feeling.

ann @ studiohyde said...

Thanks Lisa, I think that will end up as a painting, but not sure if I'll keep it monotone :)

ann @ studiohyde said...

Hi Shammickite, your teacher is right, the more you sketch the easier eye to hand co-ordination work. Newfoundland sounds lovely, lucky you. Do lots of sketches. Glad your courses have been good, it does seem you have thoroughly enjoyed them and the learning process. Looks to me like you are really getting into the painting business, I have to warn you though, it is addictive! lol :)

Wow! Your sketches are motivating me to sit and draw now. Isn't it wonderful that if we pause to look around us we can find so much of inspiration? All your sketches are great, the moleskine ones are especially my favorites.

ann @ studiohyde said...

Nice to know I may have inspired you Ariel. Thanks for stopping by :)

I'll post a couple of pix of some paintings soon. Still plugging away on one of them.... can't quite get it right.

Hi Ann, Have just got back into painting etc and was looking for a quick way to sketch my lurcher Scooby. I found your" William the lurcher" sketches and couldn't believe my eyes when I saw William on your dads knee. He's the spitting image of my lurcher Scooby. Love all your sketches with him and watercolour demo. Thanks.

ann @ studiohyde said...

Thanks Sylvie and welcome. How great that you too have a lurcher. I hope I have inspired you to draw Scooby. Do you have a blog or website, I would love to see pictures of Scooby and your painting.
