Incredible to see the waves eroding that land away in front of your eyes. So sad for the owners of the beach huts. The little ice cream hut looks as though it might be gone by morning!

That's the main entrance to the beach isn't it?

Oh wow.. that must have been a powerful storm. Is that shack still there? I hope this wasnt that close to you and you guys are alright. I cant believe how much of that cliff goes with each wave.

Reminds me of when we lived on Long Island. This was a regular occurance. ;(

It was still there - surprislingly! :-)

Yes, it is the main entrance. They started to recover some boards yesterday so they can rebuild the decking (that usually remains there all Winter) for the Lifeguards hut to sit on top during the summer.

ann @ studiohyde said...

Yes Cris, the little hut did remain...I don't know how though!

ann @ studiohyde said...

Thanks Cris....I'll keep it a while longer then :-)

Long Island....that sounds such a nice place :-)

I think I've read that the sea eroding the land around Britain is at the fastest rate in Europe. Scary to watch it happening in front of our eyes. Flood alerts are still in place with more bad weather on it's way :-(

Impressive !

We're okay with the beach, what the sea takes away then gradually comes back in better weather with the tides and winds...although this time I think it could take some considerable effort to restore it on the part of mother nature! lol

Incredible, I also saw images on the BBC news. Is that beach hut still there?

It is amazing to see the forces of nature!

Es impresionante ver la fuerza destructiva del mar. En el norte de España hay varias personas desaparecidas, tres son miembros de una misma familia. Es muy triste.
Besos.

It is still there Judy - amazingly. The base for the Life Guards hut further down the beach (the hut is removed in Winter) is in pieces all over the place. They reckon it could cost thousands to replace, and that's just the base!

ann @ studiohyde said...

It is lovely, when we are a safe distance. The waves have been incredible!

Hi Sonia, It is destructive. So sad that people are missing, especially from one family, how tragic!

Es destructivo. Tan triste que la gente está perdiendo, sobre todo a partir de una sola familia, qué trágico!

I saw the breakers and the hugs spray at Ilfracombe on our TV news yesterday, they didn't say where it was but I recognised Lantern Hill through the spray!!!!

Yes, there was a particularly high tide plus very windy too, so it all combined. Last week we went over in the evening to watch and we have never seen waves like it. Along the sea front, near Capstone, they had to cordon off areas so people didn't get hurt as they waves came over, plus they stopped people going down to the pier....That statue was all on her own in the bad weather and she still survived ... Currently going a green colour though!
