Road Trip - Arundel

And so we travel down to Arundel in Sussex on our second Hotel stay for this road trip...

Our first sighting of Arundel is the castle

but No, we weren't staying there ........our Hotel was the Norfolk Arms in the centre of the town

William soon learnt his way around....

Very cosy...this is where we had breakfast - we obviously couldn't take William into their Restaurant, so they set up breakfast for us in this room......

Arundel isn't all that big (even though it has a huge Castle) - We used to visit here years ago when we lived nearer to it, so it was nice to look around and see what had changed...(and not a great deal had).....

a glimpse of the castle here and there....

and a closer look at one of the entrance gates and then a view from along side...

Arundel is an area that has also suffered from flooding recently.  It is about 5 miles inland, yet has a tidal river called the Arun (hence Arundel's name)

and that had overflowed...

this next picture shows a bin and a seat which are actually on a pathway...now you would need a boat to get to it!

and between this avenue of trees lays a pathway...although you wouldn't think so...

I've put together a little slideshow of pictures (no sound though)...

  2. Impressive castle. See like wild weather all over the world. Freezing temps, snow, ice, flooding rains. Is it July, yet?

  4. So picturesque! If you ignore the flooding part. But even the flooding is kind of pretty!

  5. Love these pix. What is the 7 th pix down? Above the cool pix restoring place..that at first glance looks like out door eating..lol and how do you find places to eat while on the road with William? We could never leave Annie as she would bark in a strange place.

    1. The 7th pic is an indoor antique place with individual shops. Very pretty place to wander through, not many antiques though more collectibles. Often we stay in places that have a Bar and will accept William there, so we get to eat our main meal in there.

  8. Another connection.... I spent the first 6 months of my life in Arundel, was christened in the church that adjoins the castle... half for the hoi-polloi, half for the peasants, guess which half I was christened in. My Grandpa is buried in Arundel.

    1. Thanks so much Sandy, and for all your comments on this road trip. If you put into a Search engine: Arundel Castle. it should have some info for you there.

  10. When we visited Arundel back in September it was so hot - and now the floods! It's a shame that the dogs aren't allowed in the castle gardens. Sarah x
