Tavistock to Penzance

Another four night stay away....this time down to the edge of Dartmoor and the Coach House Hotel, Tavistock.

A friendly family run business and dogs very welcome....so William had a good time too.  Spoilt in fact, getting sausage for breakfast - how kind was that of them.  (photos with permission from owner's mother)...

The weather was fairly good to us, very mixed actually.  One minute we had sunshine, the next it had clouded over, but didn't stop us getting out and about.  Here, let me take you around the countryside a little..... (sorry some are quite dark - I had the wrong setting on!!)...

A few of the photos were taken from the car....

not sure if this was a folly or an old tin mine shaft...

I got a couple of quick sketches done when we stopped for lunch

and I'll finish off for now with a short video journey down one of the lanes....

More travels next post.

I love these excursions. The country lane was quaint, but scary, too. The road looked barely wide enough for one car. What happens when another car comes the opposite way?

Nice to know you like these trips CJ. You're right, those roads were narrow. Traffic has to slow down to pass on the most narrow ones....the bridge was so narrow we had to take our turn.

Thanks Willow.....I was going to cut the chatter, but decided just to leave it, lol.

Love your trips!! I tried to hear what was said.. Only heard bumpy road and something about a tree. Can't even snoop on your conversations. I tried. LOL yes those are narrow roads. Kind of reminds me of some areas here. But you English have the most marvelous brick walls along your roads everywhere. Just love them.

Your trip really looks to me like something out of a story book--What a beautiful countryside! Your trip down the road had me holding my breath a little bit because to me, you're driving on the wrong side of the road and it's so narrow! :-)

So much open space and no traffic! It looks just like I always thought the UK looked!
(PS I like your new header! What font did you use?)

As I was videoing this lane, husb. said 'probably get the big tree crashing onto the bonnet - action shot'!!! (it's been very windy here and we have seen where a lot of trees have fallen over). Fortunately we were ok.

It is lovely countryside Kim....but not all roads are this narrow, honestly. Glad you enjoyed the video.

I think I recorded the only piece where there was nothing coming the other way! lol. Not everywhere looks like this though Robin, at some point I will video bigger roads and do a post. Thanks for saying about the new header....I used Schoolbell font :-)

I do envy your trips away. We are rather tied with all the animals here, but it was lovely to share your excursion.

Our son lived in Launceston for a couple of years, so we grew to love the Tamar Valley.

Must admit we love the freedom of going away, but it is subject to finding Hotels that will take William. You are right, the Tamar Valley is lovely.
