Devon cottage - watercolour + Paint Party Friday

Having had the Saunders Waterford pad for such a long time and not really using it,  I'm now finding it good fun .... I did this little painting the other day and after adding more layers of detail, it's time to share it with you.  I say, painting - I should say Sketch.  With the work in this spiral pad, I'm using it all for reference and experiment in preparation for larger watercolour paintings one day.

Again, I used my mop brushes - of which I have several...

As the mop brushes soak up so much paint, I prepare paint in small dishes as well as my palettes. So glad I kept these dishes from desserts - why throw away something this useful...

Today I'm linking with

with Thanks to EVA & Kristin our hosts.

I hope you will stop by Paint Party Friday and

see all the art work there.

Just catching up Ann - I realise this blog isn't on my sidebar so I've been missing lots of stuff. I love EVERYTHING you've done in your pad! I wish I had the confidence to use those lovely big splashy brushes. I need time but there never seems to be enough of it. Here comes another long weekend where I become social secretary again. sigh. Brilliant idea with what look like Bonne Maman creme brulee dishes! x

Great little painting Ann. Lovely and loose. Love the recycling idea. I noticed Jennibellie link on left. I didn't get it to work. I will have to try again.

Thanks Laura. Just checked my Jennibellie link. Click the TOP PORTION to get to her page. The bottom part says JOIN if you decide to get involved in it too.

I'm always on the look out for containers, lol

It's a case of 'just have a go' Em. Wonderful if you haven't a lot of time too...as you Get On With It, and splash on the paint.

ann @ studiohyde said...

Thanks Aga, these brushes do all the work for you, really pleased I have them.

ann @ studiohyde said...

Thanks Sue.

ann @ studiohyde said...

what a pretty scene Ann. It sure takes a good eye and much talent to create watercolor sketches like this. Happy PPF!

wonderful sketches Ann ...I love these sketchbooks

ann @ studiohyde said...

Thanks Linda. It really is a case of following a few basic rules in composition. I've been thinking of doing a little video of a similar painting perhaps.

ann @ studiohyde said...

Thanks Jane.....I'm so glad I rediscovered this book :-)

Hi Ann! This is another Ann! (I think there are three or four Ann's I've seen around PPF, all without the E - so you know, wonderful and correct girls, all! Ha!)

Your watercolor is just lovely, and I am incredibly impressed with the control you achieve with those mop brushes! The sense of depth and general lushness here is wonderful. Whatever the reason, I find the back row of trees absolutely enchanting.

Yes, I love this beautiful watercolor, beautiful landscape ....!

ann @ studiohyde said...

Hi Ann with no E! We must stick together you know. Anyway, they do say too many E's are bad for us, lol. Thanks for your kind words about the sketch :-)

Thanks so much Leovi :-)

I`d love to have a go with mop brushes. I`ll look out for some.
Your painting is so fresh and bright. Do you mix your greens?

Oh Grief, this is a great water color picture (painted yellow, it might be my cottage I'm still looking for >_>) I love the brushes and yes, I repurpose things for my art too, especially little jello cups). Thanks for the visit. BTW, I stopped by the Irish cow, loved it. Blessings Janet PPF

Try the SAA (Society for All Artists) here's a link to their mop brushes:

Yes, I usually mix my greens. Depending on the tone I want, the combination I use can vary. I experiment first to see what works for the painting I'm doing at the time...but generally, I use
French Ultramarine Blue and Cadmium Yellow. I sometimes use Hookers Green+Burnt Sienna or Prussian Blue+Burnt Sienna, these combos make a very nice Dark green.

ann @ studiohyde said...

Thanks Laurie :-)

ann @ studiohyde said...

Thanks Joy, because I've different sizes of mop, I can use the one that works best with the painting I'm doing...that's where the control comes from...a lot of people use a brush that is too big for what they are trying to paint :-)

ann @ studiohyde said...

Thanks Debbie :-)

ann @ studiohyde said...

LOL..this sort of mop is much more fun to use ;)

ann @ studiohyde said...

Thanks Janet. Glad I'm not the only person to keep things for using in art :-)

ann @ studiohyde said...

Thanks Renee :-)

I wish I could paint like this with watercolors - your little sketch is stunning!

ann @ studiohyde said...

Thanks Tam. The paper is making all the difference to these loose paintings :-)

ann @ studiohyde said...

Thanks Marianne. The mop brushes, rough paper I'm using and Lots of prepared paint are the key :-)

Lovely paint sketch. I really does make me think of Devon where I was brought up for a large part of my childhood. Still miss it a little.

ann @ studiohyde said...

Thanks Jez. Well, it is still here should you get this way one day. Meanwhile, I'll keep painting scenes from it :-)
