Bouncer

You would never believe that this exhibit was made out of former gym climbing ropes...

This life sized rope sculpture was inspired by the story of a young Newfoundland dog named Bouncer.  Presented to the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York in 1901.

Created by artist Dominic Gubb who studied sculpture in London and has lived and worked in Wales since 1990.....here's some info about him and 'Bouncer' taken from information given by
Arlington Court the National Trust property where this exhibit is currently to be seen.

The carriage in the exhibit is not the one used by the original 'Bouncer',
but shown as an example.

During my lunch break I managed to do a very quick
sketch....

What an amazing artwork and artist, I had a look at his other 'upcycled' art, wow! Your sketch is great!

Never would have guessed old rope was used. Nice to have a backstory for the sculpture

This is so interesting, and what creativity and talent has gone into this exhibit, and your sketch too. I wonder if William would like to pull a cart? Probably ride in one, right? :-)

Wow, it is an amazing sculpture and interesting story.
I had no idea big dogs were used to pull children around!

Yes, I think William would want to ride in it. Although if he pulled one, I think it would be a very interesting ride for the passenger, lol ;)

Thanks Robin :-)

Yes, little carts were made especially for them. There's another very interesting exhibit at Arlington, which I'll do a post about soon.

Good grief, at first I thought it was the real dog stuffed. Looks so real. Nice job of sketching.

Hi, Ann, thank u for a nice sketch, an interesting story and a sculpture. The story reminds me of a picture book, "Queenie: One Elephant's Story." Google it, plse. Kind regards, Sadami

Thanks very much Jane. I'm glad I took the time to sketch it in front of me, rather than from a photo :-)
