When ink and paint collide

Another submission to Paper, Paint, Pencils and Pens. This time Strawberries

Paint my Photo - Courtesy Tracee Murphy

I used my Lamy Al-Star for the outline and when the paint hit it, the ink ran which gave it a random out of control look....just what I like.

Lamy-Al Star .... black cartridge
Pyrrol Red .... Daniel Smith watercolour
French Ultramarine Blue + Cadmium Yellow .... Winsor & Newton watercolour

when the paint was dry I used White Gouche+Cad. Yellow for the pips.

Me too!

Thanks Christine. I find using the pen and allowing the ink to run, stops me getting too OCD about a piece of work, lol :-)

oooo I love strawberries! As I may have mentioned, my dad in CM was a strawberry grower.... and during the strawberry season I ate so many strawberries that I always broke out in red spots!!

ann @ studiohyde said...

Do you know, I was only thinking yesterday about your dad growing strawberries over in CM. My goodness, you must have eaten a lot to have come out in red spots! :-)

These have a really beautiful, juicy look to them.
Love the touch of gouache next to the transparent red.
(If you like the way the ink runs then you will enjoy using the Yupo)

Thanks Julie, I'm definitely going to try some :-)

Ann, your strawberries look yummy! I am reading that you did the drawing in non-waterproof ink and then did the painting?? I love the results. It is loose and beautiful.

ann @ studiohyde said...

Thanks Em :-)

Surprising what a difference the non waterproof ink makes to it Faye, brings the painting to life somehow.
