Sketching at Gloucester Docks

A stop on our journey was to Gloucester Docks....a place we have been to on several occasions and it makes for a nice wander - and sketching time for me too.

sketched from the car and I added the watercolour later...

Staying in Gloucestershire

Our recent trip took us to the Royal George Hotel in Birdlip.  What a great place, dog friendly too, which means a lot to us - plus a lovely area to stay in.

There were good walks close to the hotel

and great views

I got some sketching done...

and inside the hotel....

we also travelled up to  Evesham in Worcestershire from there - well this had to be a sketch too didn't it...

Looking forward to visiting
Gloucestershire and Worcestershire again

Travel sketches

On our recent trip I did manage to do some en plein air sketches....well, I should really call it
 'en plein car' sketching  -

no way was I going to sit out in the cold and rain to sketch, but the warmth of the car was perfect.

Retail therapy as well, perfect combination!   I used my moleskine sketchbook and as you see I don't let any space go to waste, I even used the inner cover of the book for this....

Hobby Craft here I come and I bought one of these...

always wanted a glue gun, now nothing will be safe from me, I've lots of little projects to get on with ....including snow globes...I have been saving jars in readiness for ages.

For some reason, when we are away, I always end up sketching the dressing table of our hotel room!...

Having gone over to Bath (see previous post) I quickly sketched the Abbey.  No car to sit in for this, I literally had to stand there (hoping not to look too silly and touristy - okay perhaps I failed in that)
but I got this sketch done nonetheless...

We also went up to Gloucestershire, but I'll save those sketches for another post.

Hope you are having a good start to the week.

A visit to Bath

Our recent travels have seen us in Bath again.  We actually stayed in Bristol, but a short drive took us over to Bath for a look round.

Quite a bit of work is going on repairing and keeping in order the historic buildings.

I even captured a workman with his steps - he didn't look very busy though!

One amusing observation was the safety barrier/temporary wall that had been put up....they had actually used a digital image of the Actual building, so it looked in keeping,

What a totally brilliant idea.

Here are some more pictures.....

I love the look of this little shop.

We were lucky with the weather too - a good day in fact.

Debri and waves

Thought you may like to see this short video ....

whoops! sorry about that - why do I have so much trouble with Youtube!

here goes again..

Look what the sea has been up to!

Over in Woolacombe North Devon there has been a lot of sand moving...by the Sea!!

Where the sea was pounding up towards a small hut in this picture....

within about 10 minutes this is how near it got....I'll have to go over another day and see if it has survived....

With a big drop from the dunes to the beach

(about 6ft high in places)

The usual slope down to the beach was littered with debri...

some pieces bigger than others....

I think they will need to cut this tree up before moving it!
