Bookmarks

With an odd piece of paper recently I made a bookmark and that started an idea.  Well, to be honest I have made bookmarks before, who hasn't, but this time I've got round to doing a few, and I intend to make more.

Here's the  prep...

- this is how I start them off.  I divide the watercolour paper into
strips measuring 2" x 7" and sketch out and watercolour the background -

When I've completed the drawing and painting part....

They are then laminated...

All original drawings - no photocopying here.

I intend to make a lot more, so I'll get back to you
on this when I've finished the run on bookmark making.

Oh

and another idea

Coasters
(acetate covered the same. although I'm not sure how they
will live up to the heat of hot cups...but they should
be a bit of fun to make)

Thanks Christine. They are fun to do, I think because they are fairly small, they make a quick project :-)

Dear Ann - these are so nice. What a great idea. Thanks for sharing how you make these special bookmarks. I think the coasters sound wonderful too. Enjoy your creative week. Hugs

William looks good on bookmarks. I use to make my own with watercolor paintings that i didn't like - i would cut them in strips and just use them for bookmarks - never laminated them - ...but it worked. Laminated ones would be so much better. Coasters - that's a great idea.

Thanks Debbie. I'm glad you like the idea of the coasters too as I wasn't sure on that one. The more I think about it the more I'm going to give them a go too.

Thanks Sandy. I've done that too, cutting up old paintings for bookmarks, it's a great way of making use isn't it. The laminating them is my excuse to use my little machine, a bit like having a glue gun and finding things to stick, lol :-)

Thanks Robin, I'm on a bit of a roll with them at the moment, lol :-)

Lovely idea! Now you need a coloured tassel on each one! And artist friend gives out bookmarks made from her old watercoolour paintings, and decorates each one with a twine tassel, and gives them out just before her art group's annual art exhibition and sale.
Do you have a laminating machine?

I've done that too, like your friend, using old paintings cut up, they make good bookmarks that way. Yes, I do have a laminating machine, so any excuse to use it, lol ;)

I just made 60 Tag cards to go into two mini books I made. You should put tassels on these of yours and make them for your friends.

I painted some and added some water colored pictures. Others I added some characters and flowers on the backgrounds. I loved doing it. Just finished them. Great way of using up scraps. Thanks for sharing your method on ow you did it.
Made envelopes pockets to slide them in. I added some quickly on my artzy page on my blog. Upper Reading.

You can also make A.T.C cards from cards in a old deck of cards. Some people sand down the card, paint over with Modpodge. Then paint what you make choice to do. . So may ways to experiment..

Hi Carolann. Sounds like you have been Very busy making 60 Tag cards! They are fun to make though aren't they. I did think about adding tassels to them, I might do that with some of them but probably not all. I know some people swap A.T.C. cards, perhaps people should swap Bookmarks too :-)
