We have been busy...

Away on another road trip last week for three nights.  This time down to Ashburton in Devon, part of the Dartmoor National Park area - had a lovely stay, so here goes 'again' with some pictures - bite sized blog posts of our stay (although sit back and enjoy this post), there are quite a few pictures this time.

starting with....visiting Saltram house (National Trust) - yes we have a thing about National Trust properties, but being volunteers ourselves we get free passes, the Trusts Thank You to us for our work with them....so we make the most of it.  These visits are also a great opportunity to pick up ideas from the various properties to take back to Arlington Court.

When the carpet was designed, they used the pattern on the ceiling as their inspiration....

the detailing around the walls and ceilings were wonderful....

After all the sightseeing we needed to walk William (of course he gets to holiday with us)
and decided to stop on the moor....

 the views are breathtaking...

Came across this granite channel, which we guess was left over from the days of mining...

and a certain lad had a lovely time chasing around...

I don't go far without sketching....this pen sketch as you see
inspired by all those hills

Here are a couple of Links (just click on them)...

Hi, Ann, all your photos and sketches are so lovely! Your places are very different from Australian landscapes. Btw, you can enjoy swimming with William! Cheers, wink, wink, Sadami

Another spectacular house, thank goodness we have the National Trust to look after our historic houses and gardens.
What a wonderful open space for William to run around. Lovely photos and sketch Ann.

Felt like I was travelling along with you. Great pics and will bear the Nat. Trust propertiesin mind if you go down that way. Oh and they always have great tea rooms too. Nice to hear you are a volunteer. Does William have his own card?

It was very much nicer inside than on the outside Christine...I was surprised that they building was actually painted on the outside, often they are left as stonework. Glad you like the sketch, it was a quick reminder for me at the time of Dartmoor :-)

Sometimes the countryside here surprises me, even when I know it. This particular part of Dartmoor was so nice as the views stretched away into the distance.

Thanks Joan, I think the photos were sheer luck on my part, I'm no photographer, lol :-)

Thanks Robin, I knew you would enjoy the journey.

Thanks Eileen....there haven't been many NT houses/castles that I haven't liked, they all hold something new in some way - it's great to visit them.

....yes, people love the tea rooms, we know that at Arlington - off the coaches and they are straight in there. Mind you, they do make some delicious homemade cakes (now I'm hungry just thinking about it) :-)

Oh, nearly forgot! - William hasn't got his own card - Yet, but somehow I think he will qualify, he could be the mascot for NT couldn't he, lol :-)
