Boscastle

You have probably heard of Boscastle, the place that had the horrendous flooding back in 2004!   Is it really that long ago, I can't get my head around that, time must have flown by as quickly as that river flooded...

Well, anyway it was good to visit and see there was virtually  no sign of it having flooded, or will again we hope, especially as it was pouring with rain when we were there.  Didn't dampen our look around though.

And on down to the mouth of the river and harbour...with it's one fishing boat, well on this occasion

the locals seems to be happy!

(this is actually a sculpture model of an old guy)

William wasn't sure about him though...

....and, of course, I stopped to look in at this Art studio

Well worth a visit to BOSCASTLE

It looks a beautiful place to visit. I'm glad you added that the old man was a sculpture as I was about to write that the old man seemed oblivious to William sat next to him :-)

Even I in Holland remember this flood, horrible! It is a beautiful narrow valley where the river flows through, I hope it never happens again.

Rugged looking place. I'm with William. The Sou'wester hat doesn't go with the rest of the Old Dude's outfit. I liked the studio space, too.

a most interesting post Ann, so glad life has gone on there and recovered! It is inspiring.

Doesn't seem that long ago. A pretty little place. The flood reminds me of a similar situation in Lynmouth during my childhood.

That sculpture was so realistic, I had to do a double take!

I think the narrowness added to the funnel of water. Must admit I kept an eye on that river whilst we were there!

It's a wonder William didn't try to take the hat actually, he was definitely eyeing it up!

Thanks Christine - glad you liked reading this.

Yes, the Lynmouth flood 1952...you wouldn't think that it could have happened, let alone happen again in a place not that far away. We actually ended up getting debris on the beach here after the Boscastle event, car doors, tyres, bottles, wooden doors and so the list went on.

Lovely, even on a rainy day! :)

It was, strangely enough. Usually places are a bit off putting in the rain, but this was a good visit.

I visited Boscastle in 2005, just a year after the floods, and the damage and repairs were plain to see. It's good to see your photo's ... it's a lovely place to visit. Love the sculpture .... he's quite a character. ;-)

Looks like a quite place that would be perfect for plein air painting!

The National Trust building has video of the flood and displays of photos, really hits home when you are actually there in the very place it all happened!

In the right weather it would be brilliant Joan, hopefully one day we will get there on a sunny day :-)
