A look around Gloucester Quays

Every time we visit Gloucester I love it when we stop near the Quays.  Apart from the retail therapy (as if I would like that)!  - it's good to take in the atmosphere of what had once been a thriving working canal.  Although still thriving, nowadays it's more holiday cruising in rather twee narrow boats.  Not that there is anything wrong with that, it has brought popularity to the canals, which in turn keeps them open and places like Gloucester Docks a place to enjoy rather than avoid.

You wouldn't think I had just looked around the shops - as if!

The old warehouses, once used by the canal companies, have now been converted into high end apartments, again a plus as otherwise it would be rundown and horrible.

...and when the weather turned cold, I was able to retreat to the car
(the public car park was next to this boat basin)
so I was able to sit in the car and sketch

Bliss is Shopping
then getting to Sketch all in one visit.

Lovely day, leisurely and filled with things you love. What could be better?

Looks like a wonderful outing. What kind of shops? Did you buy or just browse?

Exactly - it was perfect :-)

Various shops but mostly clothes - I bought a pair of boots (reduced in the sale) which was even better :-)

It looks a good place to visit. I used to love going to the Albert Docks in Liverpool, very similar, good shops, cafes and museums and the boats, but not narrow boats though :) I agree with you it's all about the atmosphere!

I know what you mean, they are nice aren't they.

Funny enough, I thought about the Albert Docks when I was walking around. Not that I've been there, but wasn't there a program years ago set up there...it always looked a nice place.

They used to have a Granada television studio there. I have stood outside and watched Richard and Judy live on air, and seen Fred the weatherman who used to do his report on a big map of Britain in the dock. The Tate Gallery is there too, I love that place but haven't been for a couple of years.

That was it, the program...I remembered after I added my comment. The program eventualy moved to London didn't it.
