Coin find

Look what husband found recently on one of our walks.  At the time it was covered in dirt, and isn't actually this copper colour, it should be a shiny silver colour (although it doesn't contain silver) - as you can no doubt see the date on it is 1958. We went over to decimalisation in 1971 and this coin was taken out of circulation in 1980.

Interesting design on the coin. The queen was much younger then as well.

Some people believe finding small denominations of coins are messages sent from loved ones who have passed.

I wonder how song the coin had lain undisturbed. I was in my first office job when decimalization came in. My old boss refused to convert and still spoke in pounds shillings and pence when asked the price of his timber. Good job he had me to do his accounts :)

Yes, they updated the Queen's profile over the years.

We think that too.

I still have a box of old money, some sixpences, shillings, florins, half crowns and even some of the old thre'p'ney pieces (however you spell that!) And a box of old pennies.... so big and heavy, no wonder my mum had to replace the inside of my dad's trouser pockets every so often. The money wore holes in his pockets...., literally!!
And learning to add up pounds shillings and pence at school.... quite a challenge.

Exactly, those old pennies look HUGE nowadays, how did we cope! :-)
