Visiting Buckland Abbey

National Trust - Buckland Abbey

Some of the staff and volunteers around the Abbey were in costume, which was nice to see.  Plus there was a demo going on in the kitchen, giving an idea of what was cooked back in the day.

The great barn at the Abbey

The best part for me was seeing their original Rembrandt

Awesome architectural details, but what a gem finding the original selfie. I vaguely recall hearing a news story about that within the last month or so.

Thanks for this. Buckland Abbey is on my list of places to visit and it looks fascinating. And was that a plant sales area I spotted there??? :)))

Trust you to notice the plant sales area, lol...yes indeed it was and they had some lovely plants too, unfortunately as we were away from home for a couple more days I couldn't buy any :(

What a wonderful place to visit. I like to see people in costume as it makes the place come to life!

Definitely does. When I walked into the Rembrandt exhibit, the lighting was very low - I was met with a woman in costume, perfect. I asked her if she made people jump, she said she did once, a woman and child hadn't noticed her move for a few minutes, then she moved, and they jumped. Hilarious, I told her she should do that more often, what a laugh, I would have too much fun doing that if I were there dressed up!
