The Docks Gloucester

I know, we've been here before, but anyway I always end up wandering around when we are in the area

I had hoped to visit the Waterways Museum, but unfortunately it was closed for refurbishment til mid-2016 (shame they couldn't have completed that during the Winter months and been ready and Open), but at least I'll have an excuse to go back again.   Photos on this occasion, of course...so let us have a wander shall we.....

Difficult to imagine these huge warehouses being used back in the day.
Cargoes off loaded from narrow boats and large sailing vessels from
across the globe

Now the majority of them are flats/apartments

The Mariners Church

I began to think the weather was going to win -
just look at those clouds.
But incredibly they didn't come to anything
and it turned into a nice day.

The colourful narrow boat on the right is actually a snack/sandwich business

Look at the work that has gone into this piece of machinery

Did a hurried sketch, just in case it rained - so glad it remained dry.

 and if you were wondering,
Yes they do have trees here,
even if their haircut is square...(Ouch my jokes are getting worse)

Very cool tall ship. Is it still in use? Like a trainer for midshipmen from the naval academy? Can you take a tour on it to see what life was like for 18 or 19c. sailors?

Wouldn't it be fun to live in a converted warehouse loft? And those trees are too funny! ;)

It would be lovely to own a dockside apartment but I think they'd be outta my reach! Shame they couldn't get the museum open in time, not enough forward planning, but as you say it's a good reason for another visit :)

Good to see that the old warehouses are being conserved. It looks an interesting place, especially under moody grey skies.

Thank u for sharing wonderful photos and a lovely loose watercolour painting! Hahaha, the trees' hair cut are not bad. I love to look at tall ships and boats. Cheers, Sadami

It is great to explore there Marie, I find I never get bored with it, there is always something new to watch and see.

I'm not sure about this particular tall ship CJ, I didn't walk round that side of the dock but I do know there will be a Tall Ships festival there next year, which would be lovely to go to: http://www.thecityofgloucester.co.uk/whats-on/gloucester-tall-ships-festival-p1881633

It would, but I'm not sure if they have a lift! Can you imagine moving all your furniture to the very top of one of those buildings with no lift....Am I being cynical or practical here...Ummm! lol

Way out of our price range that's certain, but at least we can enjoy walking around and seeing them.

....Yes, those buildings are much better used than being left to decay.
