Unusual exhibits at Berrington Hall

We have visited Berrington Hall - National Trust property before, but recently decided that as we were in the area to go back again.  Glad we did, as they had an unusual exhibition in the house.

But first, here are some of the rooms

 as always, I look Up

You might have spotted some of the exhibition from the photos...

 The unusual exhibition were these

Costumes

UNUSUAL
BECAUSE
THEY ARE ALL

Delicarta PAPER costumes on mannequins
throughout the property

As for the landscaping...that was the last one designed by Lancelot Brown (better known as Capability Brown, owing to the fact he would look at a view and declare it had 'Capabilities') - click link

Berrington Hall was his final work, so they are celebrating 300 years since his birth (1716).

There were several tables set up looking towards his landscaping.

During the Summer holidays there will be pencils and paper available for everyone to have the opportunity to draw, but as I had my own pencils etc. with me, well how could I not use it...

and our own little poser had to get in on the act...

...and they have a "Ha-Ha"

Those paper costumes were amazingly clever, plus the hair was paper too.

I could hardly believe these costumes, at a distance they looked like material, close-up the work was so perfect :)

You certainly do get to see how the other half lived by visiting all those NT properties. The paper costumes are really interesting. it's amazing what can be done with paper.

We feel a bit like 'the secret shopper' checking out other NT properties lol.

Thanks Robin, people say about en plein air sketching being a good thing to do, I have to admit it does make a difference.

Clever costumes. A magnificent house too, but I prefer Capability Brown`s outside landscaping.

Yes, it was so cleverly put together with the costumes - I thought the hair was good too. Other visitors were raving about how impressive it all was :)

Funny how I spied that paint palette, just looked up and there it was - That was it, I had to take a photo :)

Well worth the visit. In fact re-visit, as we have been there before. That actually is good, as it gave us the opportunity to look at the rooms we had missed the first time :)

I loved the landscaping, it didn't feel enclosed as some properties are. It made the most of the distant views. (Well thought out in advance by Brown, plus the fact that over the years the trees have become so large). It was so nice that they were making a point that it is 300 yrs since Capability Brown's birth too and the fact it was his final landscape project.

Nice sketches, Ann! I love that there was a palette on the ceiling!

Thanks Joan. I thought the palette was really good, who'd have thought they would have something like that added to their ceiling designs back in the day! :)
