This time I went to Barricane Beach Woolacombe, found some shade, perfect, and set up my easel.
Although the sun wasn't out at first, it did make an appearance as I painted, but I was still in the shade which works well for me.
Whilst I waited for a layer of paint to dry I watched the surfers in the distance (here I've zoomed in) didn't catch a photo with them on a wave, but it was fun to watch.
I set myself an hour and a half to paint, but drying time was longer, so had to finish the painting in my home studio.
Guess who turned up to meet me when I was ready to leave....
(with Graham of course)
(William would have stayed there)

Love the result of your time at the beach, Ann. Great job. You found such inspiration there!
Lovely painting, I am impressed!
Barricane Beach was known as the shell beach.... for some reason we always found lots of lovely seashells there.
When you are painting outdoors, how do you handle all the people who want to stand behind you and watch your progress and chat to you? Or are people too polite to do that?
I'm with William. I would have stayed trying to hold on to the last bit of Summer
this is really nice!
Thanks Marie, yes a great place for painting :)
Thanks Shammickite. Barricane still has shells scattered around. It's much coarser sand than on the main beach, strange that, but makes it unique.
I know what you mean about painting outdoors and people watching. I tend to position myself somewhere that 1. as a good view for the scene but 2. is away from people. On this occasion I positioned myself with my back to the cliff/hillside (nobody could overlook me from behind not even high up) and I wasn't sitting in a place that people walked past...so it was perfect. I actually wouldn't have minded if people had stopped though. I guess if I had been near the end of the painting and needed to concentrate more it would have been tricky talking to people, but as I was painting in stages, that didn't worry me anyway. Still, people in Devon are very polite anyway ;) lol
LOL...he would have loved that support.
Thanks so much Sandy, it was nice and relaxing to paint that way.
The figures give a nice sense of scale to this! Nicely done, Ann! You are doing really well with the plein air painting.
WOW! Great painting! You NAILED it! ♥♥♥♥
Lovely to capture those last days of summer on the beach. Your fantastic painting is a great way of retaining those memories. Sarah x
