On our travels again

Yes, on our travels again and just got back from Oxfordshire.  A few days away is always nice and one afternoon I got to join the Oxford Urban Sketchers, which was great.  They gave me a warm welcome, I felt as though I had always known them, must be the kindred artist spirits.   We met in the High Street in Oxford at St Mary the Virgin Church, where we chose different aspects within the building to draw.  An added bonus happened to be that there was a Concert on at the time, so we got to enjoy background music too.

I'll stop chatting now and add photos of the building and some sketches - and to give you an idea of the location, here's the Google street view of it......

the next photo is from a galleried area...

...and I sneakily got a couple of photos of my fellow sketchers....

Wendy and Kate, if you have happened by here,
it was great meeting you both.

Outside, not the High Street side but in
Radcliffe Square
is this unusual library, it literally is round!

about time I added my sketches don't you think....

What a great place to meet up and sketch. The stained glass windows are awesome. Love the architecture especially the library.

Gosh, sketching inside such a huge church is quite a challenge, but you produced some lovely sketches. You are so lucky to be able to join the sketch group!
BTW, I have sent a piece in to Virtual paintout for March.

Thanks Judy. I thought it was a lovely place too. Oxford has been used a lot for filming because of the character of the place and oh boy were there a LOT of tourists enjoying it too. Groups upon groups of students too being guided around. It is so different to where I live, that actually it was fun to see (don't think I could live with it full time though)!!

I should have ventured into that library, but it looked so unusual on the outside, I couldn't believe it.

Exactly a huge challenge...I didn't know where to begin, but had to settle on certain areas. I only used a graphite pencil and a little tiny bit of watercolour (as we were away from home it was easier to cope with). I haven't looked at VP for a while, so will pop over to see your work.

The VP for March (Ghana) isn't up yet.

Yes, I saw that. I think Bill Guffey groups a few together in one post. Don't blame him, as he would be for ever posting wouldn't he.

It is just that word Marie, 'Incredible'.

Mesmerising those stained glass windows were. There was no way I could have painted them, even if I had the number of paints with me needed. Wish now I had taken some extra supplies and concentrated on two views to sketch, but heyho, it is what it is. I will know for another time.
