I requested a set of these for Christmas, but have yet to try them out, so thank you for the tip on how to keep a note of the number of which colour is which ! I'm particularly interested in using them for silk painting, in place of traditional silk inks. Whilst husband was ordering those from Amazon, he also bought me a set of 36 Kuretake Gansai Tambi - traditional solid Japanese water colours, which are a pleasure to use, though not too different from my Winsor and Newton Artist's watercolours. The final part of my gift (all from my husband - under strict instructions!) were a set of 12 Oilbars - which are exactly what they say - bars of solid oil paint. Most peculiar, rather like a giant lipstick, and very strange to use. I much prefer watercolour, but the idea of these fascinated me.
I like trying out new supplies, and Different supplies too. My only venture to Oilbars has been one colour, as a 'try out', like you I found it strange. I guess it's a case of getting used to new supplies. The one thing I haven't got yet are the Oil paints that you can use water with. I thought for now that was probably a step too far, but I'm sure one day I will weaken and buy some, lol :)
I watched the video on these and I think they would be great fun to use... and you can paint over the top without changing what you have already painted, very nice.
Some people would find it a chore when the inks dry solid, but like you say, you can paint over them without changing the previous layer...I call that a result too :)
