...and when you can take the camera plus a sketchbook, it's even better.
We went over the Heddon Valley yesterday and here's some pics
A typically rural scene - although fast declining what with mobile phones |
Lots of little groups of primroses dotted around on our walk |
Hunters Inn - a Very popular place in the Summer months - to the right of the pic is the National Trust shop |
Pencil sketch of a shed near the National Trust shop |
Initially sketched in pencil, then I added watercolour. 🌳 🌳 🌳 |

Spring is in the air, it's nice to get out and about. Nice to still see red phone boxes and I wonder if snail mail will put paid to letter boxes eventually. Lovely primroses and sketches Ann.
What a beautiful valley! Great sketches too! Is that phone booth still working? Our green ones have almost disappeared.
Did you walk all the way to the beach? Lovely primroses, wish they grew here but they don't. Only at garden centres!!!!!
Beautiful sketch, enjoyed your photos today!
LOVE your sketches (such straight lines!) I can't remember the last time I saw a pay phone here, or a mailbox. ;)
We are very hopeful that Spring is here....(although there was talk of another cold snap, we will try to pretend we didn't hear that) lol. Does make you wonder if the letter boxes will go one day, I hope not though.
Yes, the phone box is still in use. I don't think it takes coins anymore though, they usually only take cards nowadays. Rural areas have lost a lot of phone boxes, but communities have rescued some, turned them into a book-swap or put plants in them.
We almost got down to the beach, but crossed over the river at a wooden bridge. We usually walk down to it via the path that is on the left of the river, then walk back up the other side. It's a steepish climb for the last part, but after the gentle amble along earlier, we felt that was our exercise for the day, lol.
Thanks Christine, I enjoyed the sketching. We had got back to the car, stopped there to have the coffee we brought with us, so I could occupy myself sketching.
I hadn't realised the lines were that straight!!, no ruler either, just eye-balling it. I must be getting the knack ;)
Lovely to see your photographs and I loved your sketches.
All the best Jan
A very distant ancestor was apparently associated with a bit of smuggling at Heddons Mouth.... can't trust those N Devonians.
Thanks so much Jan :)
