Silly old blogger!

Well Blogger is still playing up on my Mac. 😟 Anyone else having this issue?

The Comments you leave me, I can add okay  So please keep them coming.

The daft thing is, I cannot Respond to those Comments on my computer, I have to find my iPhone and reply to you from there, but sometimes I get side tracked down a rabbit hole, as we all do online!     🐇🐇🐇

Please forgive me if I don’t always Respond to your Comments, but at least you'll know I have read them > added them to the blog  ❤️

It's been nearly a month since I stopped long enough to add a blogpost here!!!!   Where does the time go.    Anyway, now I'm here I won't chat, just add some of the paintings I've been busy with.

Adding the paintings here makes me realise why I didn't have time to add a blogpost til now....

REMEMBERING

100 YEARS SINCE THE END OF

WWI
1914 -1918

The photo was taken in France, so that's French soil you see,
and that building obviously suffered from the effects of war
along with hundreds of lives.
I find it incredible that my GreatGrandad survived all that
and I was lucky enough to have known him.

He returned from France to continue his work as jockey/Head Lad at a Racing stables until his eventual retirement.

To say I'm proud of him is an understatement.

I braved the cold and sketched...

....what some of us do for our art.
Well, I had to make the most of the opportunity, we were visiting

Sometimes you have to make the most of these things, and at least the sun was shining.
In fact it was so cold there were even remnants of a frost in the shaded parts of this huge estate!
hence I only sketched this one view.

Yes, there were gardeners working, and loads of visitors all over the place, even if the sketch doesn't show them.

UPDATE:

Wednesday 17 October 2018

Sometimes I work from photos

As needs must occasionally and it was that case on a recent visit to Dorset.

We went along to Sandbanks and across to Shell Bay using the ferry.  As much as I would have liked to sketch plein air, there just wasn’t enough time. When the ferry arrives, you have to be ready to drive on, so photos had to suffice, but Graham did have time to walk from the queue of cars and see the ferry coming back.

I expect some of you will have seen these sketches on Facebook, but some of you don’t use Facebook, so here they are...

Overnight trip to France - SHOPPING & SIGHTSEEING

No, it wasn't a booze cruise...

we genuinely went Shopping plus Sightseeing

I didn't have a great deal of time for sketching whilst there

apart from on the boat and from memory with this first sketch, the view as we drove into Plymouth

to board

Even though we were leaving the port at night,

I could just glean outlines of the dock and a building

By morning there was the usual porthole view....well, part of it anyway

PORT HOLE DRAWING - the view was SEA SEA and SEA

We drove down to Brest and luckily the cable car was in action this time...had to have a go,

although Graham wasn't too sure, he thought it was a LONG LONG WAY DOWN!

and a sightseeing walk around

I loved this art installation of washing on a line

(spot Graham looking perplexed)

Did a one-line sketch of a campervan when we parked up for shopping

The day went all too quickly and we were soon on the boat again travelling home.

I needed a subject and luckily one appeared before me, lol

🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷 vive le france - it was a good day 🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷

Cornwall sketching

New places always inspire me to sketch and paint.  The weather recently wasn't on my side for plein air painting, so I opted to Sketch instead.

Cornwall full of inspiration and surprises

On the way down, we stopped at Porthtowan,
and I sketched using my Concertina book

This is a good example of limiting what to draw.  There were actually a lot more buildings on the hillside, but the main focus for me is the tall building, so I kept it simple.

Another day we visited Mousehole

(no not pronounced Mouse Hole....it's actually more like
MOUZ ALL)

The little harbour had a lot of boats, but again I stuck with the ones that stood out

On our walk into Mousehole we came across the old Lifeboat Station

I'll leave you to read the following clips from the above notice

Families at the time had several of their love ones onboard the rescue vessel, and I think I'm correct in saying that following this tragic event, the RNLI brought in a rule that people from the same family couldn't go out on a rescue call together.

Another day we visited a former Mine

Namely Levant Mine - a National Trust property - and I saw an original Beam engine working
Wow! those old boys certainly knew how to make machines back in the day

We got about in Cornwall quite a bit, and I even cycled a few times...No, I didn't sketch whilst I cycled!

This next sketch was from the car (it was cold and windy that day)

in fact I completed this later

The next is more of an observational sketch than scenic.  We parked up and had a coffee
 - well what else would I do whilst sitting there -
Yes you guessed, I Sketched

It's fascinating People Watching

This was at Gwithian

We then drove further along the road to another car park and walked across the headland

So glad we walked, as there was a spot where you could look down onto a secluded beach
and guess what, there were lots of seals there

Our trip to Cornwall was certainly worth it.
