Old harbour and Nothe point Weymouth

We've visited Weymouth in Dorset for years, (known for it's harbour, mostly) and this visit we walked through the Old harbour area and on towards Nothe Park  (⬅️ click the link for some info)... Definitely an area worthy of a wander and we were lucky that the weather was so good

Looking across in the next picture, you can just see the Osmington White horse shaped out of the grass

I tried to zoom in with my phone, a little blurry I'm afraid, so will add a link....
It isn't very White these days either....

Making our way back towards the old harbour...
this looked like a pair of boots!

but is actually one of those boat tying up thingys -
lived on the South Coast for years and can tell I am not nautical,
only in as far as I can tell you a boat has a pointy end and a blunt end!

l like seeing boats though...that must count for something, right?

Finally back to the town and how many people look UP when they visit places.

Glad I did as I would have missed the decorations on this building
with it's gargoyles

~ I'll continue our Weymouth visit in another blogpost soon ~

Weymouth trip

One of those spontaneous bookings that worked for us.
{although I would say this particular site was on the cramped side}

Nice walk down to the beach -

guess who led the way

and a stop for a drink

when dad is buying the drinks,
William doesn't budge from the spot

I drew a quick postcard

turned out the paper didn't like so much watercolour 🤣

I soon flattened it out enough

that's it for now....
- more posts to be added shortly -

When all you have to hand is a pen and diary

On our recent trip to Dorset,

how is it possible one of our outings was WITHOUT my paints!

Hey....never mind

I had a biro and a diary

~ all part of the memory of a great trip ~

I'll be adding more blogposts about this visit to Dorset

My art escape to the National Trust @ArlingtonCourt

The 2018 Visitor season is upon us again here in Devon.

I have already been painting by the Lake at Arlington...

(remember my post here )

This week, the weather was "challenging"

and I ended up retreating into the Conservatory there,

but nonetheless I did get a "first wash on a large painting...to be completed in the studio"

and some sketches

I've named this seasons work at Arlington Court

“MY ART ESCAPE TO THE NATIONAL TRUST @ARLINGTONCOURT”

So here's to

Coffee and solo urban sketching

The good thing when shopping, is stopping for coffee.  I took the opportunity to do a bit of sketching too.

My viewpoint was a little awkward - the pillar in front of me separated these people who weren't together anyway...just as well, it would have made for difficult conversation - but did make for a good sketch and reminder of the day.

This sketch is of the same girl, moving rapidly from table to table clearing away

This was the queue of people waiting to be served

This next sketch is part of my

Watercolour painting at Arlington Court

{Turn your sound up}

It was a lovely place to set up my easel and paint

Damp conditions though and the first layer wasn't drying as quickly as I would have liked

Any painting of a lake/lily pond is a reminder of the master of lilypond paintings
Monsieur Monet
so I pay homage to him with this painting
completed in the studio

Tenby from seafront ~ to town ~ to harbour

"Dinbych-y-pysgod"... Tenby in Welsh, but don't ask me how you pronounce it,
let alone cope with the spelling, (that ancient dyslexic scribe was in action).

I'll start this post with a couple of seafront sketches

this made a nice place to sit and sketch, but also people watch

~

Then a walk into the town where I visited the

The guide on the right was explaining about the room

The guide told us that the twine on the bed could be tightened,
and that's where the phrase

"Night Night Sleep Tight"

comes from.

Tenby has two separate beaches,
(one, the picture at the top of this blogpost)
and the other is the
