Seascape on canvas

This will be part of the painting collection for Arlington Court.  Although I paint on location there, it is nice to include other artwork for them.  With the original owners of the estate having connections with Woolacombe (and whom had gifted land to the village), I thought it would be good to include some seascapes

This is the first of I hope many

Painting the view

....looking toward the conservatory at Arlington Court last week.
Luckily I checked the weather forecast and saw it was going to rain on Friday,
so I opted to go over and paint on Thursday instead

Continued plein air painting...

Remember this painting.  I did more work on it in the studio...

...and now I feel it is Completed

I can't seem to get a decent photo of this, the canvas is long and narrow, but I hope you get the idea.

Always a lovely time painting at Arlington Court
and on this particularly occasion it was lovely in the shade of a huge tree.

I took a quick (and short) video from my set-up
which was peaceful to a point....

I mentioned Upton Country Park in my previous post...

Poole, Dorset -  from a trip we made some weeks ago.  We hadn't realised this Country Park was even there, but since I had my bike with us we were looking for somewhere to cycle.  This turned out perfect as I had ridden from Poole on the designated cycle route out towards the Park.  I was then able to ride around the Park too, what a bonus.

even stopped to sketch

the gardens were lovely

even if some of the flowers were going over

A group of musicians being interviewed.
I think they were doing some filming for students by the look of them.

This little robin stayed on the post and watched me taking his photo.
Hope he was happy with my effort.

What a lovely place to visit - this is definitely on our return to list.

Further afield on this occasion...

Back when we had a few days away.  Nice to look back over my photos and remember such lovely holidays especially on this occasions when I rode my bike from Poole🔗 to
Upton Country Park 🔗.

if you look in the distance, there are some super yachts - they're made in Poole

A look back to a blog post in 2012

Oh my, how time flies.   I was browsing through previous posts recently and came across this painting from 2012 of Dunkery Beacon on Exmoor - so thought I would add it again (some of you may never have seen it and for those of you who remember it, I apologise for my repetition).

* * *

March 2012 -

I have just completed another Atelier Interactive Acrylic - hopefully in an Impressionist style!

Like all paintings, I started out covering the canvas with Gesso, on this occasion Grey and left it to dry completely.

Being a Moorland scene and there being little in the way of focal point, I decided to put the focus on the foreground.....

When I stood back and took an objective look, I felt that the path in the foreground actually took the Viewer
OUT of the painting, so I changed it....

adding some more darks to the base of the hill on the right and then some Mist over the dark hollow in the Valley....

 the finished painting

 DUNKERY BEACON, EXMOOR

I also added three sheep to the painting - did you see them?   (this sounds like a where's Wally/Waldo!)

Where does the week go

Before I know it,

it's time for another of my

'Art Escape to Arlington Court' painting days.

Again, I set up by the house.

This time I brought a different shaped Canvas with me,

I thought it would be nice to use a Box Canvas.

You will see that I am in the shade again.  Although the angle for the painting was different, it gave me the chance to get the tones and colours.

and I got a lovely surprise when I was offered a cup of tea.

Look what turned up
I thought it would be extremely churlish to refuse the scone,
so I enjoyed it - and it was
DELICIOUS

~ Have a lovely weekend all ~

Calling this one done

Here's a reminder of the painting set up at
Arlington Court during my plein air painting day

Having got home to the studio
I've worked on this canvas.

At some point you have to
step back and say

PAINTING  COMPLETED

I intend to do another plein air painting of this scene,
but on a different shaped canvas.

Kingston Lacy National Trust

We have visited this property before, but somehow, each time we Re-visit places,  we seem to find something new....in other words, One visit is never enough.

you know what I'm like for ceilings in these places,

but can you blame me,

look at this   ⤵️

incredible aye!

Lovely rooms,
although I thought this particular bedroom was a bit...

TWEE

Think it had an attack of

Cath Kidston/Laura Ashley/icing

yes you guessed, not my cup-of-tea

if anything, this childs 'tented' style bedroom was better.

Yes, you may have spotted the modern electric heater.

The problem faced with these historic buildings, is keeping rooms at

certain temperatures, in order to preserve the items inside -

there always has to be a small compromise.

Having looked inside, I wandered outside

is it just me, or do other people notice the odd things

I spotted this Air Brick -

well, if you are going to have one of these,

you may just as well have a fancy one!

Like I said at the start of this post, we always find something new when we go back.

On this occasion it was discovering that the estate had a cycle track around it -

3 Miles and as I had my folding-bike in the car, I couldn't turn down the chance for an explore.

Way worth it.  I only stopped a couple of times to take pics, I was having too much fun cycling.
