Here comes the sun

I've got to add this blogpost, just to show off some great photos -

No not mine, but our daughter's photography achievements yesterday

Over the last year or more, (Lil) @EMHydephotography

has been trying to capture photos of Kingfishers

All the rivers, streams and, in fact, anywhere she could think of, or heard about, she would patiently go on a hunt.  Sometimes she would find one, but it would be way off in the distance and disappear as quickly as she saw it.  You know what kingfishers are like, little darts of colour that fly off at the speed of light.

SO YESTERDAY

Lil heard about a spot by the river,  and she waited  7 HOURS!

to get these

I think it was worth it don't you!

Of course, she had her little companion Hamish with her.  He enjoyed the outing and ran in the river, splashed about, met others dogs to play with and generally had a great time.  But after 7 hours, the little chap was exhausted and had a snooze whilst Lil photographed....

There's another Oil painting now on my drying-frame

(You may remember a smaller version of this which measured 10" x 8" on panel -
that painting has a new home, when the paint is dry enough I'll be sending it out).

I felt like doing another larger version this time, so opted for a 18" x 14" on Canvas.

Each time I paint subsequent paintings of the same scene, they all turn out slightly different, but then that's what makes each of them unique.  I'm pleased with the result with this one, and as with Oil paintings, it now needs drying time.

here it is on the easel before I moved it to the drying-frame

Sketch time

Even when I am preparing Canvases for painting, I still sketch. Today, I couldn't help but doodle an idea for a future painting - reckon this will be an Oil painting soon

New Listings on Etsy

Keeping busy in the studio with new paintings, one currently on the easel and in progress,  but others that have dried over a few weeks/months are now Listed in my Etsy shop.

All the above are Oil paintings, where I used archival quality paints.  They are lovely to work with and so smooth to apply to canvas or art panel - no wonder I keep painting so much.

but there's also a link in the right-hand sidebar

What kind of Artist am I?

To be honest, I have never given it a lot of thought.  I’m happy painting whatever happens my way and inspires me.  I paint all sorts from Watercolours, Oils, Seascapes, Landscapes, Interiors.  Guess I get absorbed in a particular ‘theme’ or ‘style’ and enjoy it for what it is.   Then it occurred to me,

I’m a

Diverse Creative Artist

that just about sums me up.

Who says we have to stick with being just a Seascape artist, or a Landscape artist.  If we feel like painting in Oils or the next day in Watercolours, then why not.

A surprise painting

You may remember back in March I did this
painting of a camper van and called it

"Silly Season"

One of my online blogging friends instantly fell in love with it - the funny thing is, I had been thinking of her when I was painting it (I knew she loved camper vans) - So it only seemed right that I should gift it to her.  Being an Oil painting, it needed to dry and would take a few weeks to do so.

During the 'waiting for the painting to dry process' this friend's adorable dog Annie, (a lurcher very similar to our William, only smaller) passed over the rainbow bridge.  I can't tell you how sad it made me, it was like losing one of our own.   My friend added a blogpost about their loss with a photograph of their lovely dog - I knew there and then I had to do a painting for her.   Although I was sneaky, and didn't tell her! - plus as this pet portrait was behind in the 'drying process'
I  had to delay sending the camper van painting (I wanted to put the two paintings into one parcel).

Finally, both paintings were ready to send and I packaged them up so they wouldn't see the pet portrait straight away -
I added an extra note saying there was another painting in the packaging.

Oh My - the response I got from them was wonderful -
they both Loved the pet portrait and it even brought them to tears
- in a good way -

I titled the painting

"Annie - Always By Your Side"

Time-lapse

My blogpost "Time-lapse painting 7th April"  - I was intending to add the Time-lapse of this painting, but got sidetracked and forgot.... Vimeo had been playing up, so I finally decided to use another way to show it.

After much ado, hopefully it's finally here - so just click the picture to view - it is almost 5 minutes long, so make a cuppa and put your feet up...
