I found this broken piece of pottery earlier in the year and now - Eventually - I have got around to drawing it and posting some pics. Just thought I'd share this oddment with you. I've no idea what it would have been originally, possibly a vase?....but the pattern is very pretty and the piece itself is fairly chunky...
it isn't fine bone china put it that way.

I love blue and white pottery. Perhaps that shard came from a milk jug that did faithful service at a family's table.
Could well have been that CJ.
it's a lovely piece of pottery to sketch so nicely!
Thanks Christine.
I used to find similar pieces when we first went to our farm, especially after some heavy rain. I collected them all and one day may use them for some mosaic pieces on maybe a bird bath or similar, one of my projects one day! I think your pieces maybe from an antique meat platter, one of those large oval shaped heavy plates for the roast turkey! I love your paintings of them!
I love bits and pieces like this. Wonderful sketch!
Using the pieces for a mosaic is such a good idea. If I find enough I'll have to give that a go. Hope you turn your pieces into something one day. You could be right about this piece being from a meat platter, good thought.
Thanks Robin, I looked for more pieces in the same spot, but there didn't seem to be any. I won't give up though, every time I go back to that area I keep looking for more ;)
I'm always finding little bits like that when digging the garden but what a lovely idea to paint it - beautiful Ann.
Thanks Em, it makes you wonder what all these little bits have been :-)
It is really a chunky piece, Ann, so I'm wondering if it was a milk churn or some other heavy duty piece. Your rendition looked so real I thought it was the photo till I scrolled down.
Thanks Faye....I think it's quite old, it could well have been a milk churn that's a good thought.
it's a pretty little piece - it would look nice mounted in a shadow box,
Yes it would, that's an idea.
I have a matching piece of blue and white, about the same size and shape, that I picked up on the beach at Porlock Weir, but mine is definitely Willow Pattern.
Looks like it is from a nice strong vase! I love blue and white pottery.
I love finds don't you. Mine was found in a field at Arlington...I've no idea if they would be interested in having it as a Keep for their collection or not, perhaps I should ask.
I tried to find more pieces, but sadly there were none :)
I really did think your drawing was the piece of pottery. You have captured the edging so well. I find a few good bits along the shore line of the lakes when we go to Italy. Mostly from old tiles though but still pretty. hugs Mrs A.
Ehum, Ann, I'd seriously say that your drawing is much prettier than the piece! Cheers, Sadami
There is something very exciting about finding these things isn't there :-)
Thanks so much Sadami :-)
