Ann, you asked about Kosher salt. I think the grains are a little smaller than sea salt before the sea salt is ground. Different salts give different effects. I used to paint silk scarves and used it a lot then. I recently took a workshop with a woman who recommended using Morton's kosher salt. She said there is something about the flat planes of the grains in that brand that give a nice effect. From my attempts she seems to be right.
