Portland Dorset

We've stayed on Portland before (those who follow here will remember) - and yes, we have been there again.  It made a good stop off place on our journey along the South Coast - whilst there we had a wander around and took some pix...so here they are...

this quarry was a surprise, from the other side you would never have guessed it was there.

and these sheds were a surprise too...

As I said, we only had a short stop over here - then it was onto Arundel (that will be another post) ;)

Here's a Wikipedia Link about Portland for those who may like a read.

The town is beautiful and the quarry is well hidden for sure. Love the ocean view.

I so love your pictures because each time you take a trip and post photos, I find myself even more taken by this part of the world you call home! And I also grin because you probably know we have two big cities named Portland here in the US, and not too far from me is a place called Arundel Mills! :-)

Are there any parts of England that are ugly? From all your travels and pictures you make everything look so lovely!

Each time we go there, we find something new and yet it's only a very small area :-)

I've heard of Portland Oregon but didn't know there was an Arundel Mills...funny how names travel :-)

Oh believe me, there are plenty of grotspots, we just try to avoid them. That's an idea for a blogpost at some point, I'll take photos of the yucky parts just to prove they really are here, lol ;)

We found that Portland grows on You. It is unique and very different to the rest of Dorset. I recently saw pictures of how they are mining the stone underground. Arundel will be quite a contrast. Sarah x

I love that wonderful sea, merging into the misty sky on the horizon.
It`s years since we have been to Portland, but often see it in the distance from the Purbeck coast.

I agree, it is very different to the rest of Dorset. One observation on Dorset -(don't know if anyone else sees it how I do), but I always think of Dorset as the Pink County...seems to have a pink glow about it somehow.

That's like us - places on our doorstep we hardly ever go to - why is that I wonder?!
