We weren't expecting to see a porpoise the other day on our walk over in Ilfracombe, especially trying to spot something that only appears very briefly and then disappears into the ocean again just as quickly.
difficult to see Yes
exactly,
difficult to see and difficult to photograph
How wonderful for you to spot one! I just Googled to see if they are ever spotted off our coast and apparently so. Well done on managing to capture a photograph too.
Yes, we get them around here, the prob is spotting them. So pleased we saw this one. There would have been others too, but we only saw one surface. (Or did we? They do look alike after all, lol).
That was a nice treat. It obviously gave you a nice sense of porpoise.... er, I mean purpose... er, oh well, you know what I mean. Hooray for Ilfracombe.

Beautiful and illusive creatures!
Is that usual? I would have thought the water would be too cold.

Yes you would definitely have them too Eileen, your stretch of coast is an area that gets more unusual fishies spotted than here.
I'm surprised you didn't see more....they are usually in pods aren't they?
We thought that too, and kept watching just in case...I think they were shy, lol.
