(Arundel Castle)
Driving into the town...
and early on we saw the castle entrance - the main road for the town goes right past it...
and on down to our Hotel
The Norfolk Arms Hotel - here's Google Street View...
A lot of buildings and walls surrounding land and property are made from the local Flint - I wonder if these are the original Flintstones?!
Never let it be said that the architecture is not grand here - even the Roman Catholic Cathedral had to make a statement in size
but why oh why was this 1970's garage extension on the back of it allowed - What the 'hell' were the planners thinking!
With a view back to the castle
and as the day drew to a close,
it was nice to take a wander around the town
Our next visit is Brighton
(but that's another post soon)

Oh that brought back some lovely memories. Thanks. Great photos and sketches.
Back view very Downton Abbey. Lovely area
I'm glad this brought back good memories for you Laura :-)
Thanks CJ :-)
Love the photos by the river, Ann. So beautiful! A lovely place to visit. The castle is impressive!
Lovely shots of the River Arun. I'm wondering if this is where we stayed years ago. My dh did some fly fishing there. We stayed in a fishing hotel called Arundel Arms. Love your watercolors.
The castle is impressive Marie, and it has a high vantage point there on the hill.
It is very likely you stayed in or around the area Faye, they do a lot of fishing down there.
I especially like that shot of the path with the fence on the left and the big tree ahead.

Lovely photos! Not much traffic there I see. lol
Lovely! (As always! ;) lol)
Yes, husband took that picture - he has an eye for a photo.
It used to be busy with traffic through the town, but there's a bypass nowadays, so it's only local traffic going through, which makes it much nicer.
Thanks Robin :-)
It looks stunning! Have to agree about those garages ?????
I was baptised in St Nicholas Church which is halfway against the castle walls.... half for the use of the aristocracy and half for the plebs.... guess which side I was on.
Yeah...awful aren't they *.*
Obviously! - do I need to curtsy ;)
