It has been a great week. Firstly with a visit to an area where my husb. was brought up in his early years....we actually found the house he had lived in. Plus I got to sketch and paint throughout our trip. We stayed in two different locations (Hotels were lovely) and to top it all we got to meet and visit with relatives, which was wonderful.
All started with a long drive over to Bedford. One day we took a drive around Woburn Park,
here's the streetview of a small portion of the park you get to drive through. The main house not yet open to the public, but here is a glimpse of it, thanks to streetview again!
My sketchbook was kept busy throughout the week...
Vases - sketched during some 'down time' at the hotel
even part of a wallpaper pattern got a sketch!
We visited Cambridge which was interesting, lots of tourists (including us) and I took some photos, of course...
My one sketch there was brief as it was SO COLD, brrr.... I couldn't hold the pencil and hence coloured this in later...
and came across this rather bizarre modern memorial...very modern against the old buildings..
Read up on it later and it all made sense...

Another town and more sketching - Watching people scurrying about, they all looked in such a hurry and Cold, getting their shopping done and back to somewhere warm!
As I tend to avoid sketching people, this proved a useful exercise .... how will I get
better at sketching them unless I give it a go!

You took us on a lovely tour, and your sketches are all so pretty and telling us a story . Love the green vases and the lamp with the wire !

terrific sketches, and gorgeous photos of Cambridge! you are to be commended for drawing on-the-spot...no substitute for that, and it isn't easy, but you do it so well!

Looks like a fun trip. I was trying to see where you came from on the map but I cant remember where you live. Love that map that enlarges and turns. Fun to see what you drew from too. Nice to be able to keep a record in your sketch book of what you saw.. Am reading Danny Gregory's new book on journaling while traveling and everyone says it makes you see things more doing this and remember them better too.. I had to wait to read everything before I could comment. I am wiped out from painting a chicken coop today...:)HPPF

Wonderful sketches! Your picture of the memorial is much better than the one in the article. I get the hat, cat and mice but I don’t understand the other items. Interesting gentleman who obviously had a good heart.

Hi Cris, we live in the county of Devon in the South West, so for us it was a long journey. Danny Gregory is right when he says you remember places better when you sketch them, it does make you 'look' at things more.
Hi Robin, the other items are Jelly Beans (small sweets), I guess Snowy Farr liked them.
Your sketchblock looks great! I really love sketches. They have more freshness than any other painting technique.

Thanks annie! I find sketching 'moving people' difficult, I have to take a quick look at them and then look at my sketchpad trying to 'remember' what I have just seen. Of course, when I look up again they have either moved or disappeared completely! lol.
I did enjoy my trip with you, yes, keep drawing peeps, they are terrific, the Cambridge photos are wonderful designs...love the lamp too! How far are you from London?
