and had a good walk around -
Look at the seagull in the next picture....Classic painting shape don't you think!
Like so many places Plymouth Hoe had suffered from the recent storms...check out these pictures with the windows now boarded up..
Moving on we drove down the coast....first stopping for lunch (and a sketch)
arriving at Bigbury-on-Sea
the island at Bigbury would normally be a photo opportunity, but I would have been facing directly into the sunshine (not complaining about sunshine), but the photo would have been too difficult, so I sketched the hotel and island instead...
A great day with lots of walks
and taking things easy -
plus the weather was good
(we seem to be obsessed with the weather here)
Next stop was
Penzance
but I'll keep you waiting for that
til another post

Lol looks like the seagull posed for you
...it does and I didn't realise at the time :-)
you always take the most wonderful trips!! looks so relaxing … every scene is a painting waiting to happen :)
Thanks, glad you enjoy these little excursions :-)
lovely trip, lovely sketches!
You seem to visit all our favourite places! We are down that way in a few weeks time. My Dad was stationed at Bigbury for some of the war. Your pictures are so lovely. Sarah x
Thanks Christine :-)
What a small world! Yes, Bigbury is lovely, we had a nice trip there that day :-)
Lovely pictures! Too bad about the storm damage.
Lovely pix.I do love that light house with the seagull. Also great sketches and sketching opportunities. I still think you need a blog of just your trips. :)
Wonderful pictures and sketches! I feel like I was there!
Thanks Linda :-)
Thanks Cris. The lighthouse was moved to this location years ago and stands as a memorial to the designer John Smeaton - known as Smeaton's Tower. It had been used up until about 1877. You can now pay to climb up inside it (not me, too steep for my knee) lol.
Thanks Robin, I'm glad you felt you were there, that is what I was hoping folks would feel :-)
How lovely. Those skies are just amazing ( with and without seagulls!).
I`ve never been to Bigbury so I must get a map out.
Bigbury is well worth a visit, but perhaps best avoided in peak Summer - just in case you happen that way. :-)
Lovely sketches, especially the one of the cliffs!!! Looks like you are traveling through some lovely places.
Thanks Joan, yes we had a lovely time down there :-)
