I did get a pic of the bar at the Hotel, where we had our evening meal (and yes William was there with us too).
and a sketch
I have to say that this hotel was lovely - in fact we hope to go back one day...it is definitely on our Return to List.
So, what to do when it is pouring with rain and the wind is getting up - well, we took to the car and travelled to Southampton and surrounding area. That way we could each take turns going into shops. I took the opportunity too of sketching in the car - what better occupation on a wet day...
we also met up with old friends for lunch in a pub, we got there early so I sketched - Again!
and on one of the wooden beams is a proverb :
in case you have trouble reading it, the proverb is:
"The church is near but the road is icy. The pub is far away but I will walk carefully"
*
That just left our journey home, via Weymouth - and how lovely the weather improved for us:for years there have been Sand sculptures along the sea front
- they have gone very high tech and house them in a sort of fiberglass hut:
and then we drove over to Portland and enjoyed the view...
and so on home
We had a wonderful road trip
I hope you have enjoyed the journey too.

Thanks Willow, I'm glad you enjoyed it :-)
I thoroughly enjoyed your sketches and your trip.Amazes me you can sketch while on the road. I usually have to take pictures and complete my journal at a later time.
oh this was the cream of the cream of your trip. Loved it all..especially the art. what size book were you using and what ink pen.? was that a mole skin watercolor book? also surprised to see you have a Portland there too. and the Proverb means that the Pub is more important than the church.. the pub may be far but they will get there one way or another not so the church.. LOL
Your sketches are really great !
I think you must have passed the end of our lane on your rainy day Anne!
Lovely to see some blue skies over Weymouth on your journey home.
I take photos sometimes CJ, but usually I like to sketch and paint at the time, it makes the drawings easier to do. I carry a small palette in my bag and I use water brushes...so useful and handy to have :-)
Thanks Cris, glad you like the drawings, and thanks for explaining the proverb, they always confuse my brain :-) I use various pens, always good to have a selection with me, yes it was my moleskine :-)
Thanks Jane :-)
Thought we may have. I recognised some of the forest around there from your blog. Yes, we were delighted that our journey home was sunny, plus we got to see the views up at Portland.

Wonderful sketches of the areas you have traveled through. Glad you made the most of the rainy days and sketched. Ilike the one done of the restaurant at the hotel and the one of the people out in the rain!
Thanks Sarah, glad you have enjoyed the posts of our road trip :-)
Thanks so much Joan, must admit I was pleased with these sketches myself...perhaps all that rain made me focus, lol :-)
