Thanks to Wikipedia, here's a bit of information about the place:

and zooming in....
there were some large steels being removed
and how to you remove heavy steels....watch the orange digger. sorry it's only a short clip and through the wire which separated the pathway from the work.
Then on to Ryde. Quite a hilly places, and a sit down was welcome. It always pays to look Up....
check out the statues on the top of that building...
and the inevitable sketch...
For some reason I always think of the Beetles song 'Ticket to Ride' when we're in Ryde! I remember years ago there used to be a Play on Words with the places on the Isle of Wight....
There were postcards with it on but I couldn't find them this time - perhaps they no longer do them, but it was something like....
Ryde - Where you walk
Needles - You cannot thread
Cowes - You don't milk

Oh a shame you didn't get the postcards when you first saw them. Old postcards are so charming. You got some great pix. Nice sketch. Thainks for sharing your trip with us. :)
The rocky beach reminds me of some of the beaches in the state of Maine. Love the surprise of art at the top of the buildings.
lovely sketch! Nice to see Ryde.
Such a quaint looking town. Thanks for taking me along..... ;)
Looks like the beach was out of bounds, if so what a disappointment for William.
Yes, I think I'd be singing I've got a ticket to Ryde :)
I know, hindsight is a wonderful thing :-)
Yes, it's very rocky, so different from our beach at home.
Thanks Christine :-)
A lot of interesting shops there, individual not just chain store ones.
It's okay, they allow dogs, I just didn't add William's picture in this post. He had a good run around and met a swan!!! (It must have been on holiday too) lol.
I have been to Isle of Wight a few times and I remember the hilly roads and the great views , a beautiful place o visit !
Hope this brought back some good memories for you Jane. The Island is very pretty.
I think I have a tea towel with those slogans on it!
