I took a few photos - well actually quite a lot of pics and although I don't usually bombard you with loads of pics I thought this visit was worth sharing.....so sit back and I'll show you some of this place with its estuary view, small streets (cars cannot get through the little streets), so it has a lovely atmosphere (although I think moving house would be a total nightmare!)

See what I mean about the tiny streets!
The chandlery shop...
If these streets aren't quirky enough, I found the even quirkier....

with it's false windows! |
I think this should have been called Duck Lane instead of Gibbs Lane!!
this was a very short door!
and on round to the esplanade and sea

on the right you'll see someone using a cement mixer! |
....the cement mixer was actually used for cleaning the shell fish he had caught!
the local Gig club had been training and we saw them bringing their boats out of the water...
and on across the road to their shed
This must be the smallest fish and chip shop!...no not really, it was
just advertising...
boat parking instead of car parking!
looking across the river to Instow
the view looking down the river towards Appledore Shipyard
there was a news piece about it yesterday too....
We enjoyed our walk around Appledore...
I hope you enjoyed this visit too.

Very quaint village, the fishermen of olden times must have been very short.
Thanks for sharing your visit!
Ah very nice. I spent a holiday in a caravan at Instow many years ago, and explored the little streets of Appledore, but actually haven't been there since. You are definitely making me very homesick!
What wonderful photos! I could SO live there! :) Those are indeed tiny roads. But I see they are divided by a yellow line for traffic. Lol
charming photos! thanks for sharing...and those are tiny streets!
Yes, I think they must have been, lol :-)
I thought this might bring back some memories for you :-)
Hi Mary, no they aren't yellow lines for the traffic, those little streets have a dip running through the middle to run rain water off and away from the houses.
....and tiny houses too, although I think they go back in depth quite a bit.
Not being tall, I very much liked the tiny door. Especially loved the village sign of children's drawings.
I could be happy sketching there for a few days, I'm sure! Thanks for the lovely tour!!!
Oh i see. That makes a lot of sense. Sorry i couldn't see that. :)
Gives new meaning to the phrase 'love thy neighbor' being so close to one another.....;)
Yes, I thought that was clever too :-)
Wish I'd had time for that, but I'll go over another day for sketching.
Yep, you wouldn't want to fall out with anyone that close would you, lol ;)
Actually, when I looked at the pics it did appear to be painted lines Mary :-)
What an absolutely charming place! Must be very small people once living there. :)
I have always wanted to visit Appledore we have looked at holiday cottages here in the past. I didn't realise the streets were so narrow in places! It does look lovely even at this time of year. Sarah x
They still are! lol :-)
It's worth visiting, plus there are other lovely places to visit in the area too. It was a pity the day we went over was so dull and cloudy, like everything it looks much better on a sunny day :-)
Those streets are tiny! One does wonder how a new sofa could be delivered, let alone move a whole house.
The river photos are gorgeous and living facing that would be very pleasant. Thanks for sharing the photos x
You're right, we wondered how people move house, it must takes hours!
I enjoyed all. Thank you for the tour. Beautifully taken.
Glad you enjoyed the visit Carolann :-)
Ann, I admire and love your humour! Plus your wit, your photo techniques are fantastics. Much better than me!!!!
Cheers, Sadami
When I lived in Winkleigh Devon, I used to take the bus to Instow and paint by the river. These photos bring back fond memories for me.
Thanks so much Sadami :-)
