COMPTON CASTLE - and yes, you guessed it, another National Trust property....hope you're enjoying this trip as much as we did. I just have to share these photos with you (from all the places we visit)...seems nice to bring you all along.
Unusually members of the original family still live in the castle, although not in the part pictured below, they have an apartment on the other side of the building away. Hence, this property is only open three days a week in order to respect their privacy.
The estate is still worked and they breed Jacob Sheep (although we didn't see any on this occasion) this next picture is their shearing barn.
a couple of my sketches...
nice little reminders of our visit
and a Link for you, just click on it...
and a very short Video of the Medieval Kitchen. There was a commentary playing
which you will hear in the background...

Couldn't even imagine the number of people needed to keep up with all the rooms, cleaning, and cooking for a zillion people.
Wow to this medieval castle. It's great that the family still live and work there, opening it up to the public helps with the upkeep and keeps it's history alive. Lovely place and I do like your sketches.
Thanks for the look at this castle!
That's true, it would take a whole lot of work!
It felt like we were really visiting a home, even though it was a castle :-)
Glad you liked it Christine :-)
Must be odd to have tourists traipsing through what used to be your home. But I guess it’s the only way to pay the taxes!
Yes, and keep the place up together :-)
What a gorgeous place! I love medieval! Lovely gate, and lovely sketch of it!
I like your quick sketches which caught the essence of the place. Lovely photos!
Yes, it was lovely there. Very home like really considering it was a castle.
Thanks Joan, I absolutely love going to new places and finding new inspiration for sketches and paintings :-)
