but took a walk around part of the Sherborne Estate. Gorgeous walks, through woods and open farmland...Believe me you could spend all day wandering the different paths, but we only took one route...
enjoy the pix
I thought this was a novel gate catch
see how it flips over to help keep the gate shut
As with most old estates, there was an Ice House
this next picture is looking through the grid down into the depths of the ice house -
just as well there was a grid, that was a deep hole!
just as well there was a grid, that was a deep hole!
Call me Sad...yes, I hear you. Another Gate
with novel workings
and can you believe it...
we saw a BAT
Noooo, not a real one, but I thought this was a great addition to the woodland
As it was very hot this day,
we stopped for a rest under the trees.
Then out of the field opposite us
The deerhound in William actually managed to find a Deer!
okay, it was a metal one (does that count)?
and at the end of this particular walk, we reached the road.
Opposite was this charming house...Like so many houses and
cottages around the Cotswolds, it was the very picture of postcard sweet.
I sketched it en plein air, but added watercolour later
Another cottage roofline quickly sketched...

The sounds of the birds on the videowere fabulous. Such a calm and relaxing visit, even for one visiting from across the Atlantic. Beautiful, Ann.
Perfect place to enjoy my morning cuppa. Thanks for sharing
Such a lovely walk. I enjoyed your videos with the birdsong, the bat and I loved seeing the hare. The tree sculpture is really good, but love the deer. William looks pleased to have found it too :)
It was a fabulous day there, so glad we decided to take the walk around instead of visiting a National Trust house on this occasion.
Glad you enjoyed the visit CJ :)
Thanks Eileen, yes William was slightly wary of that deer, but at least he stood next to it, lol :)
Beautiful greens, I enjoyed every pic!
Such a lovely walk and how lucky you were to see a hare.
Have you ever read Minette Walter`s novel 'The Ice House'? Chilling, literally!
Hare today, goon tomorrow.... hehehe
Thanks Judy :)
I have heard of the novel, but never read it - thanks for the warning, I will try to remember that just in case I come across it ;)
Now I should have guessed somebody would say that, lol :)
I had a lovely walk, thank you! Did William chase 'Peter' rabbit?
He thought about it, but luckily we had William on his lead :)
Interesting adventures! The Cotswolds are on my bucket List, I haven't got farther than Heathrow airport so far.
I hope you get to see the Cotswolds Christine, you will not be disappointed.
