Our Third day of painting en plein air ~ Art course with Ray Balkwill ~ took us to Topsham - and oh what a choice we had here. Very easy to find inspiration for a painting, trouble was there were too many choices.
The owners of this house were kind enough to offer the art group their garden as inspiration. Some took them up on that, although I decided to opt for the quay view |
the view I chose
I did more thumbnail notes and sketches on this trip out...
...and I got stared out by this chap who wanted my lunch!
Although I did more sketches and note taking this time, I have lots of inspiration ready for a large (or small) watercolours in the future.
I took advantage of some seats further along this road for my day or art -
definitely another good day

It sounds fun and looks productive, Ann. Beautiful!
That's a lovely location. I'm wondering how they managed to steer that big ship in such a narrow space in your second photo, must have taken some skill. Your sketches and paintings are wonderful Ann.
wow...so much inspiration in one place :) I love the paintings here. can't wait to see more.
It was productive Marie, and certainly has influenced some of my recent paintings since I got home.
I know what you mean about that big ship. Apparently it's being renovated (or done up) or whatever ship type phrase they use, lol.
Thanks Sue - I'm really glad I went on this course. It's inspiring to paint alongside other artists and also see the professional at work too.
I would have a hard time deciding what I wanted to paint in that location. Nice work throughout the workshop!
lovely location and sketches!
So much inspiration, so little time! :D
Thanks Joan, you are absolutely right, it was difficult to decide what to paint.
Thanks Christine :)
You got it! :)
Lovely work, Ann!
Your sketches and watercolours are really great. What an inspirational place!
Your sketches will keep on inspiring you even when the course is over!
Sue x
I'm finding that Sue, I have been busy painting boats since I got home, lol :)
Beautiful location for a painting workshop! And your sketches are wonderful!
Thanks Judy, you would love it there.
What an interesting and beautiful spot to go to draw. I enjoyed seeing the process you went through sketching bits at a time. This one picture has so much movement and interesting pieces to it. What a fabulous spot to carry on with your workshop. Your sketches are beautiful. I just love the tender way your watercolors pop up and flow here and there. Beautiful work. Thank you for your kind words about my beach pictures. That's my primitive style but it always puts a smile on my face when I finish. genie
It made such a difference painting there, of course we were lucky too with the weather, that helped a lot. My final post about the art course will be added shortly, when we visited Budleigh Salterton.
