A trip to the Island

This was the Isle of Wight.  Off the Hampshire coast we sailed from Lymington to Yarmouth, since that's the shortest sea crossing route.  Only took about 40 minutes, long enough for William to get his cuddle with dad.

Heading out of Lymington harbour

We stayed near Shanklin on a holiday complex where we had a caravan for a few days.  Well worth going  (have been there before, so knew what it was like).....and it didn't take us long to settle in, some of us anyway!

Nice to visit some different places each time we go over to the Island and this time wandered along the river at Newport - glad we did as we found this lovely building,
home of the Newport Rowing Club

and yes, before you wonder, I did sketch it, as I did throughout our trip.

View across towards Sandown

 Ventnor seafront with pub

I started a new travel sketchbook this trip, more of a travelogue throughout our stay.  This sketchbook will be added to eventually with other trips we take, not just about this particular one.

St. Helens Isle of Wight

 From countryside to seashore...

a short walk from where we stayed recently,
down to the Old Church at St. Helens

▲ that's an old fort out to sea on the horizon

then a walk back across an area known as the Duver -
made for a good afternoons stroll

William enjoyed his time on the beach too,
but then he always does.

Isle of Wight - log cabin

We stayed in a log cabin on the Isle of Wight...been here before, so we knew what we were going to - and again it was perfect for us.

Not only did we visit beaches, but we had woodland walks too...although I wasn't sure what these were in the trees...

Got some sketching done during our stay...

inside the log cabin...

This is where we stayed - Landguard Holiday Park, I'd recommend it...

A very useful notice at the entrance showing some of the wildlife we could expect to see....although rabbits that look like cartoons apart, we did hear a woodpecker!...

but did wonder if we would actually see the animal at the bottom of this next list....

I think they meant to say:  STOAT

Ummm....think they need to recheck their spelling don't you.

We had a really good time
and William had a great time too.

Bembridge Windmill IOW

YES, I have added this windmill before on a previous post,
but it just seemed too good not to share again
with pictures from our recent trip over to the Isle of Wight

I didn't put pictures of the Inside of the mill last time,
this time I have some...although have to admit I left husband to take them...
I did go inside the ground floor but going up the steep (very steep) stairs
was not for me...

With stairs like these to climb...

you can see why I opted out and much preferred waiting outside

enjoying the view...
