Walking through a local park the other day, we found a very colourful display of hydrangeas. I took these pictures to share with you. Apparently hydrangeas show the soil acidity by their colour...well, there must be a very mixed acidity level here.....
Pink = alkaline soil
Blue = acidic soil

these are gorgeous!!
Beautiful photos. I love hydrangeas. Our climates must be quite similar, because the hydrangeas are in full bloom here in the Seattle area right now, too. Mine are all blue, but I think I am going to do some experimenting to try and get the pink color next year.
Partial to the blue hydrangeas
I agree....I didn't used to like hydrangeas, but I really appreciate the colours now :-)
Well, it does rain quite a bit here Debbie and I've heard talk that it rains a bit in Seattle too. You may need to talk to a nurseryman/garden centre and get some advice on the colour, they will no doubt help advise you.
It's very striking looking isn't it.
Lovely. Mine were al close to being in the blue colors,this year. Hmm. Fine with me as I have always wanted blue ones. But the mixture of colors is striking here.
Beautiful! I wonder how they manage the different colors....? :-/
It's interesting to see how different they can be year on year :-)
Amazing isn't it :-)
Love them.
They are beautiful, and lovely photos too :)
Thanks Christine ....
Thanks Eileen ......Glad I did this post :-)
Amazing to see blue and pink ones so close together. Beautiful pictures, Ann!
Thanks Judy :-)
Be still my beating heart...seeing this glorious display of hydrangeas has brought me infinite pleasure.
Thank you, dear Ann.
So pleased you enjoyed seeing this colourful display Julie :-)
I was told that you have to put iron filings in the soil to turn the blossoms blue.
That's interesting, I'd not heard of that :-)
These are simply beautiful! Wow what colors.
Yes, they are amazing colours :-)
