Seascape oil painting - part 1

Another painting started at the Exmoor National Park Centre in Lynmouth.  It's always a bit daunting starting a painting from scratch - the blank canvas staring back at me - will it work or be a disaster!

Screenshot below from the video I took of the painting process...
so click the image and it will take you to the Timelapse clip - 9.15 minutes if you haven't already guessed!

This isn't a completed painting, only Part 1 - of how many I don't know at the moment.  Sometimes I just have to let the painting decide, or until I'm happy with it  ;)

It was a nice day over in Lynmouth with a few people stopping to have a chat.  I set up my easel near the cafe and some people say they watch from within the cafe while they're having a snack and drink.  So they get free entertainment at the same time, lol.

When this oil paint has dried, I'll look at it again and decide where I go from there - and yes, I'll be updating here.

SOLD and SOLD

I waved goodbye to two paintings today as they are about to make their way across the pond.

It’s such a lovely feeling that they will be enjoyed by others,  having put my heart and sole into creating them.  Although strangely it does feel like waving goodbye to a friend, (Or have I lost the plot there 🤣)

Oil Seascape painting

New listing in my Etsy shop. Painting is titled: "Put The Kettle On" makes the viewer think about the scene and feel they can stop at the cottage for tea. Here's a short clip of the Oil painting via my youtube channel: https://youtu.be/_0YpmZWOnac

Alla Prima

(Alla Prima = painted in one go

I will leave this one to dry, then look at it again in a couple of weeks time.  It was painted very spontaneously (the weather changes here so quickly) - but does convey the drama of the day.

and yes, it will be listed for sale.

Youtube...my philosophy is : Just Keep Going

Think I'm getting the hang of Youtube...(she says hopefully).  You can but try and I am, if nothing else, persistent - I hear you all agreeing - 🤣

And Yes, I've added another little Video to my Youtube channel....not very long, but it does show Close-up images of some paintings in my website.

~ click the image below ~

What do you think?  Hope you like these little snippets plus there's music too.

As I get more used to...

Recording > Editing > Adding to Youtube

things will get more professional...umm just hold that thought for me

Oil on canvas board

I love this scene on our walk each day.  No wonder I end up painting it again and again trying to capture the feel of the day.  On this occasion there was a misty haze across the bay.  The sun had warmed the sand, it felt so lovely sinking our way down the dunes to the water.

Think I got into seascapes don't you...

Having painted "Magic Carpet" (see my previous blogpost)

it got me into doing another Seascape

This painting was from one of my reference photographs.  We'd taken a walk along the coastal path locally, and at the end of the day as the sun was setting, I took a photo.  Not realising it would be inspiration for a future painting, just a photo of the moment.  So glad I stopped and bothered to take in this view - which has become a 10" x 8" Oil painting on canvas panel

Magic Carpet

After some tweaking, leaving, tweaking again and

finally deciding this is it,  COMPLETED PAINTING

I have painted this scene before in Gouache, last year in fact, after a trip down to Lizard Point in Cornwall.  The light was so perfect and having looked through my photo references, decided it was an Oil painting this time, which I've given an unusual title (*footnote will explain why I chose the name for this piece)

Photos are a great memory of places visited, but somehow a painting puts me right back there.

Mixed weather

Our recent visit to Cornwall saw sunny days, but also brought horrendous gales too, in the form of Storm Brendan.   A slight concern as we were staying in this Grade2 listed building in Penzance...

With that Huge tree next to it...

However, storm and trees apart, we had a good stay
Plus I got to do some plein air painting (as per previous blogpost)

During one day of storms, we did some Wave watching, and nearly got blown off our feet

You see!
That’s St. Michael’s Mount out there in the spray and mist.
No plein air painting in that, but I did some quick sketches for reference later.
This small painting on art panel was done alla prima.  I hope it conveys a sense of the atmosphere.

Another blogpost soon, with contrasting weather we enjoyed during our stay in Cornwall.
