On the easel

Waiting for this Oil painting to dry sufficiently to then go back and add some detail.  I don't think there will be too much to add, I don't want to overwork it.  At least leaving it for a week or two will enable me to look at it again with fresh eyes....that's when I'll know how and what to add.

Measures 8" x 16" inches (that's 20 x 40cm in foreign money).

I've done a very short clip of this whilst it's drying on the easel and added it to my youtube here

Now to get on with some other paintings

 - be back soon -

Work-in-progress

Currently on the easel and as the caption says ...now to let this layer dry.

sometimes I have to sit on my hands to stop myself fiddling with more paint

When it is dry, I will then go back and add detail to complete it.

I'm getting a bit techie too, and added this (also with a separate video clip) to Instagram.  Not only that, but to Instagram Reels.  Apparently it is Instagrams version of TikTok.....yes, I know - somewhere along the line I seem to be a hundred steps behind everyone else!!!

Anyway, I gave it a go and it seemed to work - which is amazing for me, I gave myself a pat on the back.

Hopefully the video clip will add here too, says me -

so just click the image below ⤵️ and put your sound on

Well, you just knew I couldn't keep away from a good view...

'Twas a lovely spot today for some plein air painting. Set up my easel again at Arlington Court National Trust - Amazing how the sun and shadows can make the same scene look so different from one day to the next. The shadows changed as I worked and feel I could do with a row of small canvas boards to capture how it changes during the day.

I now have to wait for this layer of paint to dry and will be back another day to add more to it and hopefully complete this one.

Lots of visitors stopped for a chat, that really made my day.

Photo inspiration

When you look at my previous blogpost you will see, where and how, I got my inspiration for this painting

A L T H O U G H

it is currently a Work-in-Progress on the easel - Oil on art board

so forgive me adding it now, but I just had to share it so far.

Eventually I complete the work-in-progress.....

....one I posted about 2 weeks ago!   Well, there have been other paintings in between, I haven't been idol.

here's the blogpost      ←click link

work-in-progress....

I almost left it like this, I could have titled it something like:

'Rainy Day Through the Window'
or something similar.

But putting it back on the easel I knew there was some refining to do.  Strangely enough I didn't want to lose that fuzziness, but knew it was too 'out of focus' as it stood.

So I worked on it, off and on for a couple of hours and decided to stop where it was.  I've photographed it about 5 times, but believe me when I say, it looks better in person than in a photograph...trust me I'm an artist!

In progress...

This is only at the WORK-IN-PROGRESS stage, but thought I would add it anyway... I'll wait for it to dry and then add more detail, contrasts and hopefully at that point
bring it together...

In the making......

On the easel - this Oil painting has all the main elements in with strongest tones and lightest tones.

Now I'm going to wait and come back to it later,
then I'll be able to see where I need to:

1.  Change something

2. Add more detail to an area

3. Put in Highlights against darker tones

4. Walk away again then come back and look with fresh eyes
